VITAE
After having finished grammar school, in 1982 he was
awarded a B.L. degree by the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb,
and in 1983 a B.A. degree by the Faculty of Philosophy of the University
of Zagreb, where he studied philosophy and German language and literature.
He gained an M.A. degree in 1985 from the University of
Zagreb (thesis – Hegel’s Practical Philosophy), and a Ph.D. degree
in 1989 from the University in Augsburg (dissertation – Welt und Ethos).
He has been working for the Institute of Philosophy
since 1986. He was appointed the director of the Institute from 1991
to 2001. He has been the project leader of Practical Philosophy and
Aesthetics in Croatia since 2002.
He lectures History of Philosophy at the University
of Zadar, and History of Philosophy, Ontology and Issues
in Contemporary Philosophy at the Faculty of Theology of the University
of Zagreb.
He is the editor-in-chief of Filozofska istraživanja
and Synthesis Philosophica, and an editor of the Filozofska
istraživanja library.
He published three books: Dijalektika običanosti
(The Dialectics of Social Morality, 1988), Welt und Ethos
(1992), and Filozofija prava Ante Starčevića (The
Philosophy of Law of Ante Starčević, 1996). He is the
co-author and editor of numerous books, the author of an extensive number
of scientific papers published in both national and foreign international
journals and publications, and reviews.
He participated in a number of international conferences
and symposia, and was invited to give lectures in Austria, Germany,
the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, Korea
and Japan. He was a visiting professor and researcher in Germany (1987-1989
DAAD, and 1997-1998 Humboldt) and Japan (2002-2003).
He has been the president of the Croatian Pan-European
Union since 2003.
In
2004 he was appointed a deputy minister to the Minister of Science,
Education and Sports.
