Radman, Z. Metafore i mehanizmi mišljenja [Metaphors and Mechanisms of the Mind], Zagreb: HFD, 1995, (in Croatian).
There is more to metaphorizing than meets the eye. First of all it refers to the growing conviction that metaphor is not merely a figurative language-game, but rather a thought-process. It has been the general strategy of this book to show that it is a process of thought of a particular kind connected with analogical reasoning, hypothetical guessing, and speculative thinking.
Metaphor does not state what seems to be empirically evident, but uses the crossfertilization of disparate meanings in order to shape new perspectives, and so outline what could be the case. It bridges the gap between the given and the projected, the evident and the imagined, between the conventional and the hypothetical.
In the process of metaphor-making, we mobilize all the potentialities beyond the frontiers of the 'cool reson' that might prove to be cognitively relevant. In this context, the very fiction remains no fancy for the sake of it, but its distinct aim lies in transformation of imagined possibility into virtual actuality. In creating fiction we pave the way for facts.
