Natura historiae, historia naturae:
Unveiling Nature’s Historicity through Early Modern Analyses
of Continuity, Time, and Human History (NHHN)
1 April 2025 – 31 March 2028
The project examines the logical and epistemological dimensions of the concept of natural history within the framework of emergent geometric natural science and mechanistic philosophy. The research builds upon the Renaissance tradition of historia naturalis, particularly its emphasis on the origins of natural entities. Its central focus is the analysis of nature’s diachronic dimension through the relationship between the principles of continuity and stratigraphy, followed by an examination of the stratigraphic principle as a geometric ideal. The resulting concept of “concrete time” serves as an analytical tool for investigating the convergence or intersection of human history and natural history.
